

The intention was to draw in new players who can live with these limitations because they have a fresh look at the game and do not always compare it with what was there before. X Rebirth was not primarily designed for the existing X fan base (at least not ONLY), because we HAD TO cut features in order to make this huge game possible at all. The problems come out of the fact that there are limitations.

The design philosophy of the X series has always been: Provide players ALL possible freedom and let them do what they want. We are aware that X players always want everything. It is not that we thought: Hey people will love it if they can only fly one ship. But it is always a delicate balancing of priorities. If we could have offered that already in X Rebirth, believe me, we would have done it. Of course we are aware that most people want to fly many different ships. I explain that while we are improving X Rebirth fundamentally with every major update, there are some things that just wont work without breaking the whole game.

Please take a moment and read this Interview about our plans for the future. Yes that was a limitation compared to the older X3 games, but we made that to allow us to do other things and to be able to bring such a massive game to life at all. It was a defining feature of X Rebirth from the start that this game is limited to one ship. Flying many ships (personally) I have talked many times about the ability to fly many ships.
